Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Cosmebio/Eco-Cert Certification?

It is the most stringent certification available for natural/organic products. To receive this certification, products must meet the following requirements:

A minimum of 95% of the total ingredients must be natural
A minimum of 10% of the total ingredients must be organic
A minimum of 95% of the total Plant ingredients must be organic

2. What makes the L'uvalla products different?

ALL L'uvalla products are 100% Natural
100% of all L'uvalla active ingredients are organic

3. What is the definition of certified organic?

Any plant or living organism/agriculture that involves using methods that respect the environment and where the use of synthetic chemical pesticides or fertilizers are excluded.

4. Can water be certified organic?

No. Water is considered ‘natural' because it comes from a natural source. However, because it's environment cannot be controlled to ensure that it is free of all chemical pesticides or fertilizers, it cannot be ‘organic'.

5. What other ingredients cannot be certified organic?

Salt, minerals, natural emollients and emulsifiers will not be able to receive an organic certification.

6. What are natural emollients and emulsifiers?

Natural emollients actually nourish the skin. They are metabolized by the skin's own enzymes and absorbed into it. They are readily biodegradable and are of edible quality. Natural Emulsifiers hold two ingredients together that normally don't mix. This can be either a physical substance (like a wax) or a physical action (shake well before use). Natural emulsifiers are obtained from various nuts, berries and leaves.

7. Explain the reason why some products have a smaller percentage of organic in the total ingredients?

In all cosmetics and skincare the top third of the ingredients found on the label generally lists the ingredients that comprise around 90-98% of the product. Most of this is usually water. The middle third generally represents approximately 5-8% of the product, and the bottom third represents around 1-3%. Because of the ingredients mentioned above that cannot be certified organic, products using these ingredients will have a smaller percentage of certified organic in the total ingredients.

8. If this is such a quality product, shouldn't the total percent of organic ingredients be higher?

L'uvalla products are 100% natural and 100% of the active ingredients are organic. This is the highest quality available in skin care products today. Because many of our products contain natural water, emollients & emulsifiers, the percentage of total ingredients that can be certified organic will vary.

9. What are the advantages of using L'uvalla over more conventional, non-organic brands?

Because L'uvalla is certified organic, you know you are getting the highest level of naturally healthy skin care, with no preservatives, chemicals or toxins. The plant-based essential nutrients in all L'uvalla products give you the purest nutrients for your skin, using only the highest quality organic ingredients and essential oils. There are no harsh dyes, synthetic ingredients or chemical refinements of any kind. There is no animal testing, and every phase of the manufacturing process is rigorously controlled to be sustainable and eco-friendly. In short, this is the healthiest skin care choice you can make for yourself and for the environment.

10. What is the difference between "organic" and "natural"?

"Organic" is a strict certification that identifies both the product's ingredients and the production process itself as environmentally sound. For example, the growing process is monitored, as well as the manufacturing and distribution methods. No pesticides or fertilizers are allowed.

There are many available natural products and a number of them make organic claims. However, few products are committed enough to be actually certified organic. L'uvalla's organic certification is the most stringent in the world, and offers the highest assurance of organic purity.

11. What's wrong with chemicals in skin care products?

At one time it was believed that skin care products did not significantly penetrate the surface, but today we know better. The skin Is one of the most important organs of the body, and many researchers now believe that much of what we put on our skin is absorbed and can accumulate in our bodies.

People are often not aware of just how many chemicals are commonly used in skin care products, but parabens, silicones, preservatives and petrochemicals can cause skin damage or irritation, and some have been implicated in links to illness and even life-threatening disease.

12. Can organic products work as well as skin care with chemicals?

YES. It's a myth that chemicals are more powerful or effective than natural ingredients. In fact, chemicals are derived from natural products but conventional skin care formulas often have only highly-diluted amounts of active ingredients. Organic products such as L'uvalla do not have fillers, so they have a higher percentage of active ingredients to give you more effective results.

13. How do I know what I'm getting in my skin care products?

The truth is that with many conventional products, you DON'T know what you're getting. Cosmetics companies commonly create their own names for proprietary ingredients and do not disclose amounts of active ingredients. However, L'uvalla is committed to sound ethics, transparency and full disclosure to customers. Our Eco-Cert COSMEBIO label guarantees the quality and purity of our ingredients, and all our ingredients are listed on labels and on our website.

14. What is the "L'uvalla Lifestyle"?
